The District 2 Apprenticeship Contest came to a close last Thursday with a banquet and party in Acrisure Stadium, a well-earned celebration to commend the skill and dedication of the region’s best and brightest young Steamfitters.
The three-day competition tested the mettle of graduating apprentices from PA and seven surrounding states. Each competitor had to win their own state contest to take part in the regional competition, which held contests in HVACR, plumbing, pipefitting, and sprinkler fitting. Local 449’s own Jarodd Potts took home first place in the HVACR competition, a testament to his technical prowess only five years into his journey as a Steamfitter.
While in town, competitors and volunteers also got to enjoy the sights and scenes of Pittsburgh too. On Tuesday, the group took a trip to PNC Park to enjoy the Pirates game thanks to DeWalt tools. Then, the apprentices had a night on the town with a cocktail party at the Rivers Casino before finishing the week at Acrisure Stadium for an awards banquet and celebration.
Local 449 is proud to have hosted this year’s District 2 competition and serve as the center of the steamfitting world for the week. The connections and knowledge gathered from our region’s best tradesmen over the competition will be invaluable to our apprentices as they begin their paths as journeymen this year.
