What You Will Learn

Commercial Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration

Our focus is to provide training to our students on all types of commercial equipment found in today’s modern buildings. This equipment is fully operational in our “Live-Fire” labs where students are required to service, troubleshoot and repair actual machines that are connected to power and fuel. The breath of our equipment and labs far surpasses most paid for profit technical schools. With over 150 fully functional lab stations, students have an opportunity to work with their hands and learn from our instructors who are leaders in the industry!

Time You will spend

10 Weeks of “AST” Accelerated Service Training

Apprentices who are accepted into the five year program will start their journey with an intense 10 week course. This 10 week course focuses on preparing the apprentice to be “Truck Ready.” These first 10 weeks are referred to as “AST” Accelerated Service Training” and will focus on electrical schematics, multimeters, refrigeration cycle, equipment cleaning and amintenance. Students will also obtain OSHA 10 safety, prepare for OSHA 30, ICRA 8, Arc Flash, Scissor lift, Aerial boom and Fall protection. This includes 40 Hours of Customer Service training and one 8 Hour Day per Week riding along with other service journeymen to gain a broader perspective of our industry.

5 Years On the Job & Weekly Classroom Training

Upon completion, service apprentices are dispatched to work and return to the Technology Center for one eight hour day every other week for the next five years to complete their training.

About the Technology

HVACR (MES) apprentices are issued an Ipad at the start of their training. Students complete classwork using Blackboard which is a LMS used in several areas of higher education. Students will also use several apps special to our industry such as Skill Mill and XOi. Students are also expected to complete course work between classes.

Things we’re often asked about the Steamfitters MES (HVAC-R) apprenticeship and training.

Yes, all candidates who are accepted into the MES apprenticeship must complete the 10-week AST course.

All schooling is during daylight hours, 7 am to 3:30 pm.

Once every other week. Ex. As a first-year apprentice you will go to school on Mondays. You will go to school on a Monday then work for the contractor Tuesday-Friday. The next week you will work Monday-Friday, then the week after you will come back to school on Monday and work Tuesday-Friday. It ends up being 22 days in a calendar year that you are required to go to school.

Yes, all continuing education classes are open to journeyman and apprentice members.
