This year, the Steamfitters Apprenticeship Program received 424 applications. That is over 100 more applicants than in 2025. This level of interest in our trade is promising for the future of our organization and for skilled labor unions as a whole. This high volume of applications comes at a perfect time as our region prepares for an influx of data center construction and other major projects.

“With all the new work coming from these data centers, it’s important for us to recruit more Steamfitters,” says Local 449 Business Manager, Ken Broadbent.
The next step in the selection process begins this weekend with the 150 question aptitude testing. Once test scores have been reviewed, qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule interviews with the JATC in August. After interviews are conducted decisions on who get’s accepted in to the program.

We thank everyone who applied and wish each applicant the best of luck as they move through the selection process. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of skilled Steamfitters into our apprenticeship program.
