The Pittsburgh International Airport transformation is about 90 percent completed, and the Steamfitters have played a significant role in this progress. This major construction project has allowed our members to showcase the true value that a Steamfitter can bring to a job of this magnitude. Many of the folks representing our union have had boots on the ground for the last 3 years.  Over this time, the Steamfitters were tasked with installing piping throughout the entire facility while enhancing the air travel experience for passengers traveling through Pittsburgh.

Upon entry of the newly transformed airport you will notice the Steamfitters doing, especially when it comes to maintaining facility temperatures to keep passengers comfortable.

“Throughout the facility we’ve installed piping systems to regulate heat throughout the large open spaces of the newly renovated terminal. In addition to keeping customers warm in the wintertime, it’ll also keep the windows of the building defrosted,” says Local 449’s Brock Webster.

Our members continue to make us proud by carrying on our organization’s tradition of excellence in the field, especially on these high-profile work sites. Once the project is finished, and you’re comfortably waiting to board the airport in the winter without a shiver, we hope you’ll take a second to think about the hard work that our Steamfitters have put in!
