The United Association has been providing world-class pipefitting education to apprentices and journeymen alike for decades, and Local 449’s Technology Center in Pittsburgh has become a Mecca for Steamfitter training.
Apprentices can choose between two paths of study at the technology center: Building Trades, which focuses on the installation of commercial and industrial process piping systems and welding, and the HVAC-R Services path which covers residential, commercial, and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems as well as boiler systems.
This year, the Technology Center added the Daikin Lab to serve as a training hub for HVAC-R instructors from other locals in the region. The new lab is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure students are trained on the newest, cutting-edge technology.
UA Training Specialist Robert Vilches explained, “The UA has always strived to provide the best trained workforce in all aspects of the piping industry, and this partnership will ensure that this goal continues to be a reality well into the future.”
