Local 449 Steamfitters are all about honoring legacy and tradition, spotlighting those in the union who paved the way. To show our appreciation, when you walk through the doors of the Steamfitters Technology Center, there’s a small Local 449 museum that displays information and mementos from our union’s strong history. It recognizes and celebrates the strides our brothers and sisters made in the country’s labor movement.
Visitors can see newspaper clippings from pivotal moments in our history, old photos, antique tools, and vintage pipefitting textbooks and manuals. Local 449’s constitution from our founding year in 1913 and old union dues booklets are also on display.
Some memorabilia spans decades up to the present, like our iconic Steamfitters stickers and signed footballs from the apprenticeship Turkey Bowls, an age-old tradition.
All this history, and more, is located at the front of our facility so that the first thing people see is the gratitude we have for the generations of Steamfitters that came before, and how they are the reason we are thriving today.
