Trade Proud: Stanley Black & Decker Encourages High School Seniors to Celebrate Their Decision to Attend Trade School
With the skilled labor shortage remaining one of the biggest challenges facing the U.S. economy, Stanley Black & Decker is celebrating high school seniors who choose careers in the skilled trades. As a result, the company is encouraging students to take pride in their decision starting on May 1.
Supporting the Next Generation of Skilled Tradespeople
NEW BRITAIN, Conn., April 27, 2023 — To honor and support the next generation of skilled tradespeople, Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK) is recognizing high school seniors entering trade schools on National Decision Day. Traditionally held on May 1, this day marks when graduating seniors commit to their future paths.
This year, however, Stanley Black & Decker is expanding the tradition. The company invites students attending trade schools to share their decision on social media throughout the month of May. In addition, students can use free downloadable digital banners provided by the company. They are encouraged to include the hashtag #tradeproud and tag Stanley Black & Decker in their posts.
Addressing the Skilled Trades Shortage
The skilled labor shortage continues to impact the U.S. economy. For example, there are more than 500,000 open jobs in the construction industry alone. Despite strong demand, many young people still overlook careers in the trades.
According to Stanley Black & Decker’s 2022 Maker’s Index, misconceptions remain about compensation and long-term stability in trade careers. However, the research also shows an opportunity to close the perception gap. As a result, initiatives like Trade Proud help spark meaningful conversations about the value of skilled trades.
Investing in Trade Education and Opportunity
Stanley Black & Decker continues to invest in education and workforce development. In 2021, the company launched the Global Impact Challenge. This five-year initiative includes up to $25 million in funding for nonprofit partners focused on vocational training and reskilling programs.
Moreover, DEWALT, a Stanley Black & Decker brand, announced its 2023 DEWALT Trades Scholarship. This program awards $200,000 to 40 individuals nationwide to support trade education in fields such as HVAC, engineering, and manufacturing.
At the same time, Stanley Black & Decker offers additional scholarships. These include the Cub Cadet Scholarship, the Stanley Black & Decker Trades Award, and the DEWALT Patriot Scholarship. Together, these programs help students pursue stable and rewarding careers.
Celebrating Trade Pride
Through the Trade Proud campaign, Stanley Black & Decker is sending a clear message. Trade careers matter. More importantly, they offer long-term opportunity, purpose, and pride. By celebrating students who choose the trades, the company helps strengthen the future workforce and support the people who make the world.
