Steamfitters UA Local 449 is proudly hosting the Pennsylvania Pipe Trades Apprentice Competition on Tuesday March 29, 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday March 30, 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. to showcase their best apprentices in welding, pipefitting, and HVAC at the Steamfitters Technology Center located at 230 Wise Road, Harmony, PA 16037. In heating up the competition, Sprinkler Fitters Local 542 and Pittsburgh Plumbers Local 27 will be participating at their own locations along with Scranton, Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Latrobe competing for the best apprentice in Pennsylvania with the winner moving forward to the district level to be held in Kentucky.

Steamfitters HVAC Training Director Brad Tisdale says, “There are high stakes in the competition but the regional networking and experience our apprentices gain becomes an invaluable asset in their education. Pittsburgh is a winning city, and we intend to give it our all.”

Steamfitters apprentices go through a rigorous 5-year training program on their way to becoming an experienced journeyperson. Steamfitters UA Local 449 continues to provide upgrade training on the latest of materials and methods as well as networking with the top industry professionals. Tisdale says, “This competition is just a few of the added perks of opportunity for our apprentices.”

Tisdale continues, “With our talented apprentices and state-of-the-art facility, this opportunity helps to raise the standard of healthy competition while strengthening our connections. There are roughly 300 training centers in the U.S., and these competitions give our professionals a chance to visit and bring back different skill sets and innovations back to their local.”

Steamfitters UA Local 449 intends to bring home the winning title through HVAC, pipefitting, and welding. There will be an award ceremony to be held in Champions Club at Heinz Field for all participants starting at 6:30 p.m. The winner of Pennsylvania Pipe Trades Apprentice Competition will move onto the district competition along with 7 competing states. From there, the winner will move to the district level to be held in Louisville, Kentucky with the national level being held in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
